Why go to Spain?
Spain is a beautiful and diverse country located in the southwest of Europe and one of the world’s leading holiday destination. Millions of people every year are attracted by the popular beach holiday resorts, stunning beaches, beautiful landscapes, charming villages, sports activities, delightful gastronomy, great nightlife, historic sites and more.
Barcelona, Granada, Seville, Madrid – Spanish cities are among the most exciting in Europe. Take a stroll around the Catalan capital and the brilliance of Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí is everywhere to be seen. His most impressive Barcelona project is the Sagrada Família, a huge and somewhat flamboyant church which was only a quarter finished when Gaudí was knocked down by a tram and died, aged 73, in 1926. If, when you think of Spain, images of flamenco dancers, matadors, castanets, tapas and sherry appear, then Seville is for you. In Madrid, it’s easy to shop until you drop, and well-defined shopping areas make the whole experience a breeze. All the usual high-street stores are found around Gran Vía, along with Spain’s congenial department store, El Corte Inglés.
The Balearic Islands
The Balearic Islands, located in the Mediterranean east of the Catalan coast, are among the most scenic of all the islands of Spain. This famous island group consists of Majorca (“Mallorca” in Spanish), Minorca (“Menorca” in Spanish), Ibiza, Formentera, Cabrera, Tremac, and several smaller islands. Several of the Balearic Islands have become favorite vacation destinations with travelers from throughout the world, but especially with people coming from Britain, Scandinavia, Germany or Ireland.
The Canary Islands
Many travelers have also heard of the Canaries, but because of their location not everyone realizes that they’re actually Spanish. Situated in the Atlantic Ocean off the northwest coast of Africa, they include Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, Lanzarote, Fuerteventure, La Gomera, El Hierro, and three smaller islands. With their beautiful beaches, wonderful subtropical climate and the world’s third-tallest volcano as attractions, the Canary Islands (especially Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote) are also a major tourist destination.
Are you thinking of going to Spain? Check out where the main airports are and plan your trip. The main airport in Spain, Madrid Airport – Barajas, is located in the northwestern part of the city of Madrid, and it is only 12 kilometers away from the center. The airport in Barcelona – El Prat, is the second largest international airport in Spain and the first in the region of Catalonia. Other major airports are located throughout the country and islands.
