Being nice and polite to the person serving you goes a long way! I can guarantee that if you make conversation and build rapport with the agent, your rental experience will be 100 times better. I can’t promise they will give you an upgrade but they are more likely to give you one of their better cars in the group you have booked. There are always cars that agents like to give to “special” customers – good and bad!
During collection, the agent simply asked if I wanted extra insurance, which we declined since we have yearly excess cover. He stated that we were getting a free upgrade to an automatic Mercedes C Class. He also mentioned I could pay to upgrade to other luxury vehicles if I wanted to. I declined this as the Mercedes was perfect for the 2 of us on this trip.
The car itself was great. It would easily fit 5 adults comfortably and have ample space for 2 large cases and 2 smaller ones, such as hand luggage.
Booking early made a massive difference. We booked in April and paid £350 for the 9 days. If we made the same booking in May, the price would have increased up to £740. By June it was a staggering £921!
The rental experience was smooth and faultless. I drove over 1000kms over the 9 days and the return was very easy too. Lisbon Airport has clear signage, making the return process an easy task. As I was returning the car before Sixt’s opening time, I simply parked up in the returns area and put the key in the drop box. When you do this, I strongly recommend you take pictures of the car (both inside and out) to avoid any potential disputes later on.
Sixt exceeded expectations and they get a 5/5 for this rental!
